2020: The Cloisters Re-Opens

Oh, nice! My mask matches my outfit, haha. This is a selfie. 😉

Last Saturday, I visited the Cloisters in New York, which is part of the Met Museum and it features medieval gothic and romanic art and architecture. I was excited to go inside again! It’s one of my favorite things to see and do in the city.

While we are still quarantined and in a pandemic, some museums are opening up, allowing a few number of visitors to enter inside. Thus the Cloisters do allow walk-ins, but those who made reservations online will be first priority.

So, what’s different?

  • Besides the mask requirement, there is a wait time to enter.
  • There’s only one way to enter the museum as oppose to the gated entrance option as well.
  • The cafe inside has been closed indefinitely 😦 Well, at least there’s more space to explore.
  • There’s a five minute or less wait time when going through certain sections of the museum. For instance, you have to wait a bit if you want to visit the Unicorn Tapestry.
  • The museum has a one way direction that you have to follow. So, you can’t go back and forth through the galleries/sections as before.

Hands down the courtyard is most heavenly place in all of the museum. 😉 Yes, another selfie of me.

What’s the same?

  • The artwork and the gardens are still there and in full bloom.
  • Everything that you’ve seen beforehand is still there.
  • If it’s the first time going, especially on the weekend, you’re in for a treat! There’s less of a crowd walking through.
  • The Courtyard is open and that is the most popular selfie/photographing space.

All in all, I’m gratefully I had the opportunity to go visit this historical venue and hopefully I can visit again!

Have you been here before? Are you a fan of medieval art and architecture?

You can check out an early post of my experience at the Cloisters.
